Coming Soon - Pheylonian Beeswax Candles

Gathered Roots will soon be offering a selection of 100% beeswax candles!  I’ve enjoyed Pheylonian Bee Works’ products in the past and since discovering that they can no longer be acquired here in town (as far as I know, anyway), I’m whole-heartedly welcoming them into the office as a complementary addition to Reiki services.

Have you heard of the benefits of using beeswax candles?  Among them, its:
  • production of negative ions that have cleansing capabilities (ie: dust, odours, toxins, etc.)
  • longer burn times than other waxes (ie: paraffin and soy)
  • non-toxic, non-allergenic, and non-carcinogenic properties
  • pleasant and still completely natural aroma

If you would like to get your hands on some these BEEautiful candles to enhance your environment and/or mood, be sure to “Like” and pay close attention to Gathered Roots’ Facebook page (www.facebook.com/GatheredRoots) for some announcements.  A limited quantity of samples will be offered to Reiki clients on a first-come-first-serve basis and details regarding a Facebook-related contest will be posted shortly...

Canadian Reiki Association - Volunteers Needed!

The Canadian Reiki Association (CRA) is a federally-chartered, national non-profit registry of Reiki Practitioners and Teachers representing various styles of Reiki practice.  Becoming a member has been my intention since the beginning of Gathered Roots.

One of the application criteria outlined is the completion of 24 case studies.  My hope is to be a Registered Practitioner with the CRA by mid-November and I’m seeking individuals who would like to visit the office for up to 4 one-hour Reiki treatments during the month of October.

As a volunteer client, you must be willing to complete a Client Information Form (that is used for office purposes only) and also a Case Study Report Form that will be released to the CRA.  The information shared includes your full name, email address and telephone number, as well as my noted observations about each session.  The Case Study Report Form will be kept strictly confidential by the CRA Board of Directors.

In exchange for the help, the cost for each Reiki treatment is $25 (the regular rate is $40).  Come take advantage of this offer, which will be extended until all case studies are complete.

You can confirm the number of treatments desired and be guaranteed the reduced rate by scheduling and prepaying ahead of time or you can also schedule and pay for one appointment at a time too if that’s what you prefer.

If you would like to be a case study client, please contact me as soon as possible and we can make the necessary arrangements.  Thank you!

My membership with the Canadian Reiki Association can benefit all existing and potential Gathered Rootsclients.  Some examples:

  • All registered members (Practitioners and Teachers) must adhere to the Canadian Reiki Association Code of Ethics.  Did you know that Reiki practice is currently a non-regulated health career in Canada, meaning practitioners are essentially free to conduct business in whichever way they choose?  More information on this topic will be released in future articles but know that the Code of Ethics set forth by the CRA outlines high standards that I am willing to commit to.
  • While Reiki services are not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Program, a small handful of private insurance companies are now approving claims under Extended Health Care benefits.  The CRA aims to make this recognition widespread by offering its members a professionally designed extended health claim form and bringing awareness about Reiki to the Insurance Industry.  My connection with the CRA can possibly make Reiki treatment more financially feasible for you.
  • Finding a Reiki practitioner in Timmins and Area is not always easy!  Having Gathered Roots listed in the CRA’s online directory is another way for those interested in Reiki to access the service.

Rejuvenation - Just for YOU! (Spa Day)

My first taste at sharing Reiki at a public event came recently.  On August 17th, I packed the treatment table and headed over to the Rejuvenation - Just for YOU! Spa Day Event.  It was a casual gathering in the home of Diane Pearson (owner of PeRfect Cent$).

Gathered Roots' display.
I was offered a beautiful bedroom to practice in, away from the main activity.  In a sense, if someone was able to find me, Reiki was meant to be!

For many of the women who visited, Reiki was a new modality.  They each received 5-7 minutes of mini-treatment, with focus being placed on three different positions of the crown.  The general response was how calming the experience was, and how hot my hands felt! From the time guests started to arrive, the treatments were being sampled one after another.  I’m glad that Reiki sparked that kind of curiosity and interest!

The only downfall?  I forgot to take photos, other than the ones shown!

Thank you to all for shaping this event.  Diane, practitioners, and guests.  It was a great experience and I hope to make it back again next year!

A satisfied recipient of a mini-Reiki treatment, Karen Allard, said, "As brief as it was, the session managed to reduce some of the back pain that I had been feeling.  I was also left with a general sense of peace and warmth.  I highly recommend Jessica's sessions and plan to indulge myself in another long-distance session as well as one at her renovated space.  Thank you Jess!"

Thank you also to everyone who subscribed to Gathered Roots' newsletter during the Spa Day event!  A draw was held for a $40 gift certificate and the winner is KAREN ALLARD!  Congratulations!   =)

Reiki Basics

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a spiritual practice that restores balance. In the treatment room at Gathered Roots, the client lies fully clothed on the Reiki table. The practitioner uses a series of light touch hand positions on the client's crown and along his/her upper torso. Alternatively, the hands may be placed just above the body, without any direct contact. It is believed that this procedure allows the recipient's vibrational field to return to its natural state. In turn, healing, self-awareness and self-realization can be further developed, and life enjoyed with increased satisfaction.

Reiki treatment does not require physical manipulation by the practitioner, or any ingestion or topical application of substances.  There are no known medical contraindications and as such, Reiki treatments are considered to be a great complement to any existing health care regimen, including conventional medicine.

What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
The Reiki treatment experience is an individual one and it’s even possible for the same recipient to be affected differently from session to session.  Most often, clients report tingling and warmth in the body accompanied by feelings of deep peace and wellness.  On the other hand, shifts in consciousness can also be quite subtle and go unnoticed or only become apparent a day or so later.

How Reiki treatment can benefit you:
Anyone can benefit from Reiki treatment no matter the situation at hand and one treatment is typically sufficient for a client to notice an improvement in how he/she feels.
Continued Reiki treatments can contribute to the maintenance and strengthening of our personal essence or spirituality.  As we bond more intensely to the deepest aspects of ourselves, shifts in consciousness and life transformation become a natural occurrence.  We all travel a unique path, however, and the exact changes and benefits that manifest, as well as the pace at which they occur vary.

Some of the main benefits to Reiki treatment can include:
  • Re-establishing balance
  • Enjoying feelings of peace and wellness
  • Reducing and/or releasing stressful emotions and their related ailments
  • Deepening personal awareness and clarity (intuition or inner-knowing)
  • Rekindling and/or reinforcing a sense of empowerment
  • Facilitation the transformation of life patterns
  • Realizing life potential

“What do I have to do during a Reiki treatment?” asked the client.  The answer:  Just breathe!

Gathered Roots is Re-Opening!

First, and perhaps some of the most thrilling of news, the new office renovations are complete! At the time of writing, decorating is the only thing left to do.
Gathered Roots is now located at 80 Tamarack Street (from 82 Tamarack), between Fifth and Sixth avenues (near downtown Timmins). No, we haven’t moved far... We’re fortunate to own a two-unit home, which enables me to dedicate one of those units to Gathered Roots. So while still technically home-based, it’s its own private space, separate from our personal living area.

I’m so sorry about the wait time but big projects were on the task list and this required a lot more energy than both me and my partner anticipated. We’re far from being carpenters but we poured our souls into renovating and I’m very pleased to announce that the feedback has been really positive so far. I hope you’ll feel that the wait was well worth it considering the results achieved. Not only is this a more spacious and brighter environment to receive Reiki services, but also warmer, calmer, and all around more professional.

Reception Area

What does this re-opening mean for you? If you’ve received Reiki treatment from Gathered Roots previously, it means welcome back! If not, know that there will very soon be another avenue for you to practice the art of being rooted into your own essence. Whether this means creating balance, making space for healing, discovering your power or expressing a thriving version of yourself, Reiki treatment can offer support and I would love to be a part of your process.

Hello, and welcome.

Hello, I hope you’re doing well and thank you for your presence.

Did you know that Gathered Roots has been a registered business since October of 2011?  It feels as though it’s been one continuous process of setting up, with some taste-testing here and there of what is possible with this venture.  Since completing Reiki training, it’s been a process of making space for more self-care and -growth than I’ve ever allowed myself before, and in turn, cultivating more experience to share with others.  It was a period of developing and coming into my own as a professional as well, in terms of defining my scope of practice, improving my clinical skills and ability to communicate more effectively, etc.  And these past six months, setting up also entailed creating a new environment where clients can receive services (aka: lots and lots of renovations!).

Telling signs of a transition into the next chapter have slowly been arising recently.  Among them, unexpected opportunities and projects that allow me to put myself out into the local community that I can feel confident and excited to say YES to!  The last nail has been hammered into the wall and the last of the tools cleared from the office, making way for the re-opening of Gathered Roots.  And with both of our kids being away at school this year, the hours of operation have expanded.  It’s time!

My hope is that these articles will provide you with accurate and clear information about Reiki practice (and other services offered in the future), with the latest developments concerning Gathered Roots, and also with some special offers.  I am also interested in any ideas you may have.  If you would like to somehow contribute to this newsletter by becoming a guest author, asking a question, sharing a testimonial, etc, please be in touch!

This is where we begin.

Breathe.
Breathe again.
Smile.
Relax.
Arrive
Where you are.
Be natural.
Open to effortlessness,
To being
Rather than doing.
Drop everything.
Let go.
Enjoy for a moment
This marvelous joy of meditation.
